Here’s my idea for a Canadian Gadsden. What does everyone think? Symbolism: Green flag - symbolizes the boreal forests, as well as opposition to Socialism (of Communist, Marxist-Leninist, and National varieties) “Don’t Mess With Me” - analogous to “Don’t Tread On Me” Moose is native to Canada, and is found almost everywhere in it Large animal - Canada is geographically large Good eyesight - The constant watchfulness that a free people must always have Solitary - Advocating for a lack of formal alliances, but rather amicable relations with nations Few natural predators - A libertarian country doesn’t experience blowback Peaceful… - A libertarian country doesn’t go looking for fights… …but will mess you up if provoked.

Canadian Gadsden Contest!

I’m trying to come up with a good, Canadian alternative to the Gadsden flag. It needs to be similar in the “big moves” (that is, an animal and a motto on a single-colour field), but using distinctly Canadian imagery. I also want it to evoke the values and characteristics of a free republic, namely:

  • Constant vigilance (on watch for threats to liberty)
  • Non-predatory nature
  • Peaceful, but will mess you up if provoked
  • Likes to be left alone

Photo reply with your ideas and your last name. Picture quality counts, with Wikipedia’s flag images being the mark to shoot for. I’ll post my favourite six (plus my idea), and have everyone vote on the best one. Whoever wins will have the flag named after them, and if I decide to get them made, I’ll send the designer one for free!

Additionally, I’m going to make the winning submission my avatar and factor it into my page (when I change my theme), so there are plenty of bragging rights up for grabs too!

thecheekylibertarian: Third-wave ‘feminism’ is a very libertarian movement, when you get right down to it. Think about it: the principle enforcer of the gender binary is the state. The census, public schools’ standardized tests, taxes—any documents for which you provide demographic information—require you to check one of two boxes, despite the reality of a spectrum of various genders. Part of the problem, you might say, is that they’ve conflated gender, which is psychological, with sex, which is biological. But while  correcting every instance of ‘gender’ to ’sex’ might give you fewer people with box-less realities, those excluded individuals still exist, as some people have a combination of sexual organs failing to definitively indicate ‘male’ or ‘female’ (this should not be news to anybody). The libertarian and feminist see this as a mechanism for objectification and abstraction. If you can break someone up into pieces, they become less human and more of an aggregation of attributes, labels. It enables the government to conduct and publish studies deploring the failure of women, Blacks, Muslims, the poor, etc., further entrenching its self-justified war on __________, allowing for even more government expansion and even further oppression of those groups for whom it claims to advocate. See, not all feminism is burnt bra fallacies and Y-chromosome persecution. Very interesting. I’ll have to look further into this.
